How Common Are Falls In the United States?

Each year, more than 800,00 people are sent to the hospital because of an injury caused by a fall. In fact, according to the CDC, unintentional falls are the leading cause of hospital visits yearly.

It is a common reflex to reach out your arms when you are in the process of falling. These are painful injuries that can result in long periods of rehabilitation or even surgery.

The best thing you can do to keep yourself safe this winter is to be prepared for icy conditions when walking. There are steps you can be aware of to help prevent a fall this winter season.

How To Stay Safe When Walking On Ice

  2. Be ready for a fall.

  3. Shuffle your feet and avoid large steps.

  4. Wear flat-soled shoes

  5. Give yourself extra time to get places
